The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbalaey, inaugurated the trial run of the Uruk Factory for Pharmaceuticals and Medical Supplies, in the presence of members of the Board of Directors and the Deputy Secretary-General, in order to provide basic medical needs and achieve food security in Iraq.

Sheikh al-Karbalaey said during his speech at the opening ceremony, "Such factories are a breakthrough in the world of the pharmaceutical industry in Iraq, and represent one of the strategic projects through which Iraq will advance at the present time."

He added, "Iraq depends on importing the essential and non-essential needs from abroad, but it is necessary to provide the needs of food and medicine locally,” pointing out that the factory will contribute to achieving national drug security, as well as prove that Iraqis are able to execute important projects.

"Our goal and your goal is to serve our country, Iraq, and to serve our patients. Therefore, I urge you all to pay close attention to the quality and efficiency in your work to instill confidence in the heart of the citizen," added the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority.

For his part, the Director of the Uruk Pharmaceutical Factory, Dr. Muhannad al-Saadi, said, “As a result of the unlimited support from Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalaey towards the factory, we opened the trial run for the Uruk Factory for Pharmaceuticals and Medical Supplies of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine. It is located on an area of ​​6.25 hectares and includes several manufacturing facilities.”  

The Uruk Factory will start production in early 2023.
